New York, NY, 2014
Afoam worked with artist Tattfoo Tan to design and oversee the fabrication NEAKA (New Earth Apocalypse Knowledge Advancement); an aluminum structure in the form of a catamaran . NEAKA acts as a symbol for a post-economic meltdown, global warming and serves as a vitrine for artist Tattfoo Tan’s ongoing social practice project- NEMRE (New Earth Meal Ready to Eat), a dehydrated meal harvested from food waste.
Initially installed in 2014 at FoodPrint at Smack Mellon Gallery in Dumbo, Brooklyn, the sculpture has been exhibited at “Paths to Pier 42” hosted by LMCC, “The Value of Food” at the Cathedral of St John the Divine in 2015, and “Heal the Man in order to Heal the Land” at the Newhouse Center for Contemporary Art at Snug Harbor.
